How to practise

  1. Choose the foundation set, extension set or all verbs. Read the base form before looking below.
  2. Type one past simple form and one past participle. The drill ignores capitalisation and surrounding spaces.
  3. Check the feedback and use the correct forms in a sentence. After a full set, the drill cycles through the verbs again.

Recognised variants include learnt/learned, dreamt/dreamed and got/gotten as the participle of get. Got is usual in British English. Gotten is common in American English in some meanings, but expressions such as “have got a bicycle” still use got. The table notes explain special cases.

This is a recall aid. It cannot test pronunciation, tense choice in context or every meaning of a verb. In particular, the past forms of read have the same spelling as the base but sound like “red”. For a broader plan, visit Vocabulary & Grammar and apply the forms in the Writing Lab.

All 60 verbs: a reference

The drill filter changes the practice set; the full table stays visible so you can look up any form.
